Love Me Some Lemons

4 Reasons Why You Should Love Lemons

There’s more behind that tall glass of lemon water everyone’s talking about. Aside from tasting pretty great, lemons have a lot to offer you and the overall health of your body. Break out the organic lemonade.

Lemons are highly alkalizing once consumed which can help to balance out our acidic diets. Many of the foods we eat daily are causing an acidic environment in our bodies, an environment in which yeast, fungus, inflammation, & disease thrive. Clearly, not what we want to happen. Thankfully lemons can help 😉  Little squeeze into your water bottle or added to meals can make a difference.

Antioxidant & Immune Booster.
Lemons are high in Vitamin C, an important antioxidant necessary for protecting the body from free radicals and other harmful pollutants. Vitamin C has been linked to such benefits as protecting the body from immune system deficiencies, lowering blood pressure, aiding in digestion, reducing inflammation, improving cardiovascular health, easing heartburn…the list goes on!

Iron Absorption.
Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, one of our body’s essential minerals. Since lemons are high in Vitamin C, they are a great way to help you absorb more iron! Try adding lemon in your salad dressings or marinades or simply squeeze some fresh lemon over your veggies to add a dose of Vitamin C to your next meal. Use kale in salads? adding lemon will not only soften out these greens but help you absorbs their nutrients.

It is commonly suggested to drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning. Why? Well, drinking water alone is helpful in flushing out toxins in the liver but adding fresh lemon juice can stimulate the production and flow of bile, a fluid our liver uses to get rid of waste and toxins in our body. This is an important part of our detoxification process in the body. If your digestive system seems sluggish you may notice a big change here.Try getting in your lemon water first thing in the morning before you eat breakfast!

Get into the habit of using lemons every day. Drinks, smoothies, salads, dressing, marinades, sauces, desserts…get creative 🙂
